AKROPONG SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND: DANCE TO IMPROVE MOBILITY!

The Akropong School for the Blind is a long serving educational institution working with blind and visually impaired students in the town of Akropong in the Eastern Region of Ghana, and one of the first initiatives supported by MusicXChange!

Students learning traditional dance as taught by Agbekor DeSouza.

The result of our collaboration was a program which focused on traditional drumming and dancing lessons for the students, and provided 40-50 blind and visually impaired students with hands-on training and education relating to traditional African music forms, using music and dance to increase physical awareness

The programs were achieved by working in collaboration with the school’s staff and teachers and with local musicians from the local community, focusing on traditional dance styles as a tool to assist mobility for the visually impaired.
