Music therapy is the clinical use of music to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of patients.
- Music therapy can play an effective role in patient physical and mental wellbeing. Clinical research indicates that it has proven effective at treating a wide range of patient populations including, but not limited to, patients with special needs, traumatic brain injury and mental health disorders, speech impairment, neurological disorders, cancer,
pain management issues and substance abuse disorders.
- Unfortunately, to date, the clinical practice of music therapy has a small presence in Ghana. MUSICXCHANGE™ GHANA aims to promote, highlight and expand its use by establishing a pilot music therapy program at the HopeXChange Medical Center in Kumasi, Ghana, in close collaboration with local musicians and healthcare professionals.
